Open file - warning about security

 Problem description

When starting the PALSTAT CAQ application, the "Open File" - Security Warning" window appears with information that it should only be run from trusted publishers. Continue with the start button.

Solution A)
This behaviour most often occurs after UPG deployment, when the update package has been downloaded and is always marked as potentially dangerous by InternetExplorer. If such a file is extracted using Windows Explorer, the flag is inherited on all contained files. It is necessary to remove this Zip file before unpacking. This file designation differs depending on the Windows version and the browser used.

If the application has already been deployed and there is not the option to unpack, it is possible to delete the flag from the PowerShell files. The script works for PSv3 and newer.

get-childitem "CESTA_K_INSTALACI_PALSTAT_APL" -Recurse -Force | unblock-file

Solution B)

This procedure is obsolete before 2016 when libraries and EXE files were not signed with a qualified certificate.

Firstly, find the name of the computer (server) on which the Palstat network program started.

Next, perform the following steps on each station where the alert is displayed:

  • launch Internet Explorer / Tools / Internet Options
  • on the Security/ Local Intranet, check"Automatically detect intranet network".
  • click SPECIFY
  • in the Add this site to the zone box:type: write: server or mapped drive (two backslashes and in place of "server" the name of the sever/computer on which PALSTAT is stored), select Add, and the Close button
  • save all settings, exit Internet Explorer.

Now PALSTAT should start without the warning, Windows may need to be restarted.
VIn large companies, this setting can be done via DomainPolicy.
